'Shubo' Durga Puja...

Today is "Ashtami" the most auspicious day of Puja. So let's celebrate this day with our tele-stars as they share their thoughts on the puja and much more...

"O, Jayanti, Mangala, Kali, Bhadrakali, Kapalini, Durga, Shiva, Khama, Dhatri, Swaha, Shwadha my earnest dedication to you all. Ma Durga, salutation to thee!"

The word Navaratri means 'nine nights.' During Navaratri, we worship the goddesses Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati, in that order, for three days each. We worship goddess Durga because she is shakti - strength. This worship helps us think about our positive inner selves. The main significance of this kind of worship is that you should not let your bad side, or negative side, win. So lets embark on this festival with enthusiasm and energy and pray for a brighter, better and sparkling year ahead for everyone!

We asked few television actors about the significance of Durga Puja in their lives and how they are planning to celebrate this pujaHere this is what they have to say

Reshmi Ghosh:

Significance of Durga Puja in your life: Durga Puja is basically the portrayal of strength and power, but for me Durga Puja is celebration, fun, and filled with lights. This year I will be in Kolkata to attend the last day of puja.

Sweet you prefer - Sandesh or Rosagulla and why: Please don't make me choose among the two. I like sweets very much and I am fond of both the dishes. When I came to Mumbai, I learnt that people out here also love Rasgullas a lot. I am fond of Mishti Doi too.

Your attire for Durga puja this year: I will wear a saree, adorning a complete traditional look.

Message to your Fans on this Durga Puja: Enjoy every bit of life because it is full of surprises and entertainment. In short, eat, drink and be happy.

Naman Shaw:

Significance of Durga Puja in your life: I used to celebrate Durga Puja when I was in Kolkata, but now I don't get the time. Yet I make sure that I go to the Pandal at Lokhandwala and attend their puja whenever I get time.

Sweet you prefer - Sandesh or Rosagulla and why: I prefer Sandesh and Mishtidoi. I am not very fond of Rosagullas, I don't know why.

Your attire for Durga puja this year: I usually wear Kurtas and Jeans.

Message to your Fans on this Durga Puja: Wish them all a happy Durga Puja.

Shubhangi Atre:

Significance of Durga Puja in your life: I believe in Goddess Durga and her power.  Durga Puja is an essential part of my life. Though I'm not a bong, I like this festival and enjoy it to the full extent.

Sweet you prefer - Sandesh or Rosagulla and why: I prefer Rosagulla because it's very tasty and yummy.

Your attire for Durga puja this year: I'm planning to drape a saree, Bengali style.

Message to your Fans on this Durga Puja: Enjoy each and every festival with full enthusiasm.

Sayantani Ghosh:

Significance of Durga Puja in your life: Being a Bengali, it's an important festival in our lives. Since childhood I had been part of it so I can't really segregate the significance. One thing that I can say is that this puja is something that is innate for us.

Sweet you prefer - Sandesh or Rosagulla and why: I prefer having Sandesh and Mistidoi. The reason is that you can find Rosagulla in many Bengali houses but I feel that the taste of the other two sweets is very good.

Your attire for Durga puja this year: Well this time I'm shooting for my show due to the strike so I will not be going to Kolkata. I also did not get time to go shopping so I'll just be wearing a salwar kameez for Ashtami, the main puja.

Message to your Fans on this Durga Puja: For now love and peace is the word We desperately need it, especially after the bomb blast cases that have happened recently in the country.

Romit Raj:

Significance of Durga Puja in your life: It's the best thing that happens in Kolkata. I have stayed there for 10 years and enjoyed this festival to full extent. This is the time when all the family members comes together and celebrate.

Sweet you prefer - Sandesh or Rosagulla and why: I like to eat chilled Rosagulla. I keep it in fridge and then eat it next day. The syrup is so yummy.

Your attire for Durga puja this year: I have this Bengali Kurta which I had bought eight years back. I have worn it just twice so I am thinking of wearing this time. It gives me the feeling that I'm in Kolkata.

Message to your Fans on this Durga Puja: Let's come together and spend time with our loved ones. This is the occasions when you enjoy and share light moments with each other and spread love and peace. Go out and enjoy yourself.

India celebrates Maa Shakti during this period – be it Navaratri or Durga Puja, we all pay our tribute to the goddess of power – Devi Durga. it's a kind of invocation or invitation to the mother goddess to descend on earth.
