The magic of music starts from the eight octaves and where it ends, nobody knows. Music is for every occasion - From partying to Rock & Roll, from disco to wedding, from everyday life to even a sombre funeral, everything has music embedded in it.
World Music Day is an annual festival which was formulated in France by American musician Joel Cohen who proposed an all night celebration to mark the beginning of summer solstice. This day also promotes peace and spreads goodwill through music.
Let's have a look at some of our Telly town actors who are also into singing...
Talking about music, the handsome actor says, "Music is a passion for me. To polish my singing skills, I'm still getting trained at it. I find myself lucky if I'm able to spend at least one hour to music, even after a tough schedule at shoot. I believe music is like working out, you need to regularly practice it."
The actor also says that he spends his time listening to music all the time when he is at gym or while driving his car or when free at work.
When asked about his selection of music, Amit says, "I listen to all types of songs. There are different songs for different kinds of moods. I feel music is the best stress-buster for me, I feel very relaxed listening to music. My all time favourite song is 'Dard-E-Dil' and I wake up every day to this beautiful song. If I'm in a dull mood, I pick up the songs by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. If I'm sad I listen to songs by Jagjit Singh and if very sad, I listen to the old songs by Mukesh. Other than these, I keep humming the latest songs all the time. But moreover, I prefer listening to more of Hindi, Punjabi and classical songs. "
In conversation with TellyBuzz, Amit also said that he'll soon come up with a Punjabi Album, probably by the year's end.
Ragini who is blessed with a melodious voice was also seen showcasing her singing talent in a celebrity singing reality show Star Ya Rockstar on Zee TV. "Music is my soul and a connection to the spiritual being that I am. It means everything to me. I can dedicate every second of my life to music. When I'm not shooting, I'm always hooked to music, be it in my car or at home, it just goes on. It is my necessity which transports me to another world. "
Talking about her choice of music, Ragini says, "Except for Rock and Heavy Metal, I love to listen to all kind music... from hip hop to old Hindi romantic songs to contemporary Bollywood numbers – just everything! The singer I admire the most is of course the very talented Sonu Nigam. From Hollywood, I enjoy listening to my favourite rapper Eminem, Rihana, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Adele and the list is never ending."
"Music is a spiritual meditation for me. It keeps me alive."
The very talented actor, who is also getting trained at singing, recently came up with a music video on Tum Hi Ho from the movie Aashiqui 2. In conversation with Tellybuzz, Suyash speaks about his craze for music. He says, "For me, music is my life. I spend my maximum time listening to music. Actually the show I'm working for at present is about 42 kms far from my home. In totality, I have to travel almost 84 kms daily. So the best way to pass my time is to listen to music while I'm driving. Apart from this, on the sets, I have also arranged speakers in my make-up room, where I can peacefully spend some time alone with few songs."
Suyash further says that, "The most important element in a song is the emotion that it carries. I prefer listening to songs that have a meaning. I worship Sufi music and I'm a great fan of Jagjeet Singhji who has given us such amazing songs like 'Koi Fariyad' from the movie Tum Bin. Also, I prefer to listen to slow and sad music because such songs are very delightful and they evoke several emotions in me."
"Another important reason why music is important to me is because of which I met Kishwer Merchantt. It so happened that I went on to the sets to meet my close friend Vivian Dsena. He took away my phone and played the songs that were recorded by me. Kishwar was stunned to hear it as she really liked my voice. Apparently, she asked Vivian who is the singer? That was the moment when she came up to me and praised me for my voice and style of singing, and that is how it all began. So music has also given me my love Kishwer."
Today on World Music Day, which song will you dedicate to Kishwer?
"I would like to dedicate the song 'Tum Hi Ho' to Kishwer because the song speaks out volumes and every time I sing it for her, it brings a smile on her face."
Suyash also left us with a hint that may be by this year's end he will debut as a singer.
Sumeet Raghavan, who is blessed with a harmonious voice, was also a part of a singing reality show Star Ya Rockstar. In context to music, Sumeet says, "Basically, music is the best way to live your life. Personally, I love to sing and I'm also trained at classical music. A day without music for me is like a day without sunshine. Just like food, clothing and shelter, I count on music as my basic necessities."
"I haven't set a particular time, but I listen to songs while I'm driving, when I'm at gym, in my vanity van or when I'm doing nothing."
Talking about the choice of songs, Sumeet says, "My selection of songs depends completely on my mood. There are some songs like 'Kahi door jab din dhal jaye' that pull me down. The mood of the song sometimes makes me feel to be left alone."
Songs like 'Zindagi ke Safar Mein' beautifully written by Anand Bakshi and sung by Kishore Kumar is one of my favourites. I can listen to it again and again anytime."
Thus, we can conclude that our Indian television industry is blooming with artists who are not only proficient in acting, but also skilled at singing.
We at TellBuzz wish everybody a very musical World Music Day!
